Yes, it's been too long. I've actually had a pile collecting that I just wasn't scanning in. I'm starting to fix that and here's where it starts. Plus working on Stargazer, of course.

Yes, it's been a little while since I posted some art. There's more I need to get scanned in, but I've been more than a little busy. And a lot of what I've been working on have been redraws to RTGK (which is just about done on that stage! Whew!). More on that later!

But here is some fun little stuff in the meantime.

Drunk hamsters and sunsets.

  • Aug. 16th, 2008 at 10:52 PM
Crazy Moggy
Okay, so I've had a bit of a crappy time lately, as anyone who's read my last few posts could tell...it's not a big deal, just annoying stuff that makes me go rarr waaaaah sniffle sob grumble. You know how it is.

Well, actually, by "lately," I actually mean the last year or so. But never mind that.

Anyways, awhile back, the most wonderful [info]tscheese did a drunk drawing thing where she drew suggestions under the influence. I suggested some combination of drunk hamsters and sunsets that led her to draw this wonderful thing that has been my desktop off and on for months and months now:

How fun is that? Way fun, that's how!

Wait, that sentence doesn't make lots of sense...anyways, never mind that. I like that picture a lot, that's what I'm sayin'.

So, last night, I'm getting all tipsy on wine and painkillers in the hopes that the combination will dull the various aches and pains I have right now and [info]tscheese mentions that her friend is doing a similar drunk drawing thing. And I have no idea who this person is but I'm feeling silly and in the need of a smile and so I wander over and suggest...hey, please draw me a drunk hamster with a sunset, too! Cuz I'm cheeky like that.

And so the wonderful [info]mshepley does me a drawing!

How cool is that? Made my whole day, I tell ya. Really. A true random act of wonderfulness!

And so now I have the startings of a collection...anyone else wanna give me a drunk hamster and sunset drawing? *puppy eyes*

As for me and my teethy problems...I'm currently biting a clove in the hopes that it will dull the toothache. And I can still taste the salt from the rinse earlier. Go, folk remedies, go...buy me some time till the antibiotics actually start to do something other than upsetting my stomach! And don't even get me started on the uselessness of painkillers. Pfftttttt!

Moggy (sore, tired, hungry, and kinda wishing she was a drunk hamster...)

Miscellaneous in 11 points.

  • Jul. 11th, 2008 at 8:45 PM
hiding moggy
1) Is it a bad thing that I'm perfectly content to spend Friday night sitting outside on the porch with the iPod playing my (very quiet) "sleep" playlist, a glass of cider, the laptop (for occasional e-mail checking), and a book?

2) Von is playing video games inside. We're not exactly party animals, huh...but content.

3) Less than two weeks to my doctor's appointment. Thank gawd. And that's all I have to say about that because this isn't meant to be a pity-me-I-feel-crappy post...I've done too many of those in the past. And will likely still do a few in the future, too, despite my best intentions.

4) Next weekend I'm doing something nutty in a place that speaks mostly French. Anyone care to guess what? I'll give you a hint: it's free!

5) In two weeks I'm going to a cottage. For a girl who's complained in the past about having nothing planned for this summer, the next two weeks are an embarrassment of riches. I still wanna do Boston but now it's going to have to be August because I'm stuck here till after the doctor's appointment mentioned in point #3 (and then I guess I plan around the new surgery date).

6) [info]tscheese wins the prize for best post of the day. She's awesome...and she met a giant cockroach tonight!

7) I feel like writing for the first time in a long time. I have the...interest...and it's been gone a long time. We'll see if anything comes of it.

8) HEY! Did you see Von's post? C'mon, he needs some support: http://vonandmoggy.livejournal.com/367696.html

9) I forgot what I was going to put for #9.

10) Whatcha doing this weekend? Tell me something exciting. Or dull. Or make something up. I really just want e-mail to read tomorrow, okay?

11) Please see #8 again. For me.

Happy weekend! And now...back to my book. Mmm, book.

Joanne
Jane
Joline
Julianne
Justine
Jesse
Jacqueline

None of those are correct but they're all very good guesses! Please keep trying by emailing me (rtgkcontest@gmail.com) and try to put "RTGK Contest" in the subject line! :)

The road to god knows... contest!

  • Jun. 23rd, 2008 at 7:21 AM
Von in toque
Well, we haven't quite "gone fishin'" yet and since today marks the launch of a wee little contest for the road to god knows... on GirlAMatic, I thought I'd cross post the details here, too.

This is a lottery-type contest and is open to pretty much everyone (well, save any friends and family that will know the answer. If you know the answer right off the bat then you're disqualified! And I'll know who you are! :) ). Aside from that, it's open to pretty much everyone. With that out of the way, here is the question:

What is Marie's middle name?

Ok, right. It's tricky. There aren't any clues in the actual narrative to her middle name (well, nothing overt at any rate) and without giving you any direction it's a complete guessing game. Not really fair, I think. So, here's the only clue I'm going to give. Ready?

Her middle-name starts with the letter J and is just one word (no hyphens).

Since I don't want to be deluged by every guess under the sun, here is how this will work. Each individual (um, that's you) can email me once per day with a guess - just one guess from just one person. I'm not going to answer every single email, so when someone stumbles across the right name then I'll post an update on GirlAMatic, on our blog, and change the automatic response on the contest email address (more on that in a sec) so that everyone will know that the contest is closed. The first person to guess right is the winner. In the event of multiple correct guesses on the same day, I'll use the time/date stamp on my email to determine the winner.

Now, since I know privacy can be issue in this online world there are a few things you need to know. Firstly, I'm not going to sell or otherwise release your email address to the world at large or some scurvy company (hell, I wouldn't even know where to start!). But I would like to keep your email address just so I can let you know about my future projects down the road (for instance, my next story is tentatively called Stargazer and I'd certainly like to let you know about launch dates and whatnot when the time comes). On top of it, I would like to be able to announce the winner to the world at large, but you certainly don't have to use your real name. So if you have a handle you like to use and don't mind sharing (even if you just made it up), I'll use that instead. And if you have a website, blog or other slice of the internet, I would like to post that, too. Though only if you're ok with that, of course. Lastly, I'll need a mailing address from you for the contest prize (and again, I'll keep that private).

So what's the contest prize for all this? Well, it's a framed print of the GirlAMatic 5th birthday card design I came up with a few months back. It measures approximately 11" by 17" and I'll be mailing that out once I have a winner. The card design is below, but note that it won't have the GaM logo - that was digital add on and I don't have the right to use it for my own purposes. But the final image (I'm holding it in the next pic) still looks pretty nifty if I do say so myself.

GirlAMatic 5th Anniversary Birthday Card Design in Colour!

Von Allan with print

I've set up a dedicated email address that you can use for your submissions. And again, please remember that you each have one guess per day - one guess, per person, per day. That way I can keep it manageable. The email address is rtgkcontest@gmail.com and is active right now (If you click this link, the address should open automatically for you). Please put "RTGK Contest" in the subject line and then your guess and your name in the body. You will get an automatic reply from that address just to confirm your submission (so check your spam filters). You should only receive this once, though, so on subsequent emails don't fret if you don't receive it. If you don't receive the reply at all than I most likely will not have received your submission; in that case, leave a comment here to let me know. I will also get in touch with the winner for their mailing address and the like, too.

That's it, that's all. I have to admit I'm very curious to see what you folks come up with. I suspect a few will be better than what I chose, but so be it! I'm also not sure how long this will take (it'll depend on how quickly the submissions roll in, I suppose) so I may give further clues if the correct answer isn't hit on quickly. We'll see!

Good luck!

Von's art show...belated!

Hey,

Between Rory's passing, a friend's heart attack, and the million little things that happened in between those things...I've been negligent in doing my La Dolce Vita art show post! *hides head*

Anyways, first of all...thank you very much to the sweet-hearted friends who came out on Victoria Day evening to feast and drink and admire Von's art with us. Much, much appreciated. I would've liked to see more random people show up (strangers lured in by the press releases and CBC mentions) but dem's da breaks. The show runs until this coming Saturday so there's still time for the information to soak into peoples' brains...and buy prints! I'm trying not to get my hopes up but it would be so good for Von if a few of them sold. We'll see...*fingers crossed*

Anyways...bring on the pictures!

As a special bonus to being such a nice host for Von's work, La Dolce Vita also has a gluten-free menu. A fine Italian place...with gluten free pizza and pasta and dessert and beer...*faints*

I'm really, really proud of Von. Just sayin'.

Just one today. On 90 lb. cold press watercolour paper for those who like to know these kind of things.

I suspect I'll probably start doing more watercolour on hot press paper, though. I find hot press more pliable than cold press. I work reasonably small with finicky details and hot press suits that quite a bit more. :)

Yes, it has been a bit grim and gritty here with me and Moggy. And while things have been stressful (whew! Boy, have they!), life is still good and life goes on. So, with that in mind, it's time for some art.

Tomorrow is moving day!

  • May. 25th, 2007 at 12:10 AM
blurry late-night me
Tomorrow, my office is being shuffled around for the second time since I started working there...I gather the cubicles are being shrunk a little to make room for, presumably, a big open area filled with comfy couches, a bar, and maybe a big screen tv, where we can hold Friday afternoon par-tays and have fun movie meetings more cubicles.

I finished packing up all my stuff before leaving today...five boxes of books, toys, junk, clothes and god-only-knows what else. I should've started a pool about how many boxes it would take to pack up my office; apparently five boxes is a lot less than folks would've guessed.

Anyways, we weren't allowed to use any larger boxes, only the ones we were provided with, and so a bunch of my awkwardly sized stuff (Gandalf, plants, and miscellaneous posters and paintings) has been relegated to an empty office. Yes, that's right, Gandalf is going to be left unattended...and by the comments I had to endure while moving my stuff, I just KNOW I'm going to come in on Monday to trouble (I'm working at home tomorrow while the actual move happens)(Yes, [info]zippyfish, that means what you think it means).

I put a note on my stuff, because I had to...

[Moggy's] stuff (706 D)

(Plants, geek toys, and miscellaneous other stuff that's too big or fragile to go into a box.)

Hands off Gandalf! This means you, Jean...and Gerald. Oh, and Rick, too. All of you! No touchy!

...but I have a very bad feeling about it, anyways.

Okay, so excellent artist and fellow LJer [info]ericfmyers is doing 50 banjo drawings to raise some coin during a bit of a tough spot. The information is here but the short version is...$20 USD gets you a banjo drawing with the theme of your choice. I asked for a Von theme (heh)...just try and tell me this picture isn't awesome:

The hard copy will be framed in Von's studio, I'll tell you that for nuthin'!

So go on over and get a drawing, please...the price is right and you'll be helping someone out, too.

Colour me peaceful.

  • Mar. 24th, 2007 at 2:02 PM
Looking down
Well, it's been a rough week. I'm still not feeling 100% myself and so I stayed home today (missing my friend's Scrabble Fundraiser for the first time in six years, damn!) and a co-worker was kind enough to help me with tomorrow's Perfect Books shift and I'll be home then, too.

So I just dragged all my drawing and painting supplies out and dumped them on the coffee table. I'm going to spend the afternoon smearing paint on canvas, watching TCM, and drinking tea. We'll see if I can place some stress and start Monday with a clear head.

On a funny sidenote, my smock is my old A&W shirt; I've used it for every home painting or creative painting project for a good 12 years now, and you can see the evidence all over it. White from painting Von's bedroom at the apartment he had when we first got together...green from painting the kitchen in that apartment...a dark orange from the kitchen at the apartment previous to the one we're in now...red from the current livingroom...blue from the bathroom...and then a whole other mess of colours from a painting class I took a few years ago. It's kind of funny to see all those colours, and nice that I can remember where each one comes from.

Aaaaand it has no buttons left on it...which always makes me smile. And, no, I'm not elaborating...though it is a good story. *wink*

Have a good weekend, everyone...and happy spring!

With SPX, finishing up the line work to Road, and a few other odds and ends, I haven't just drawn for the heck of it for a little while. I'm going to be fixing that and this is the first drawing. I'm a wee touch out of practice and the skelly in the FG could be more dynamic, but eh...not bad for a warm-up.

Just make with the clicky for a larger pic.
