From [info]scarlettina...she picked seven of my LJ interests and I have to explain who/what they are and why they warrant a spot on the profile (if you want to play, leave me a comment).

Here goes nothing:

1. Alpha Flight: Canadian comic book heroes! What's not to like about that? Actually, this is mainly one of Von's interests...yes, I've read some Alpha Flight and, yes, I do like comics...but the superhero variety has always been a hard sell for me. Nothing to do with gender or anything, I just didn't grow up with them and I'm still developing a taste.

2. Arrogant Worms: Great Canadian comedy/folk band. With songs like The Last Saskatchewan Pirate and Jesus's Brother Bob, they're just a whole lot of wackiness. Also, their nonsense got me through a rough patch about 11 years ago and for that alone they have my undying gratitude.

3. Blob: Beware of the blob, it creeps and leaps and glides and slides across the floor, right through the door and all around the wall. A splotch, a blotch, be careful of the blob! (Great cheesy horror movie...and with Halloween coming up in less than two weeks, it's just about time to watch it again, too.)

4. Outer Limits: There are a handful of excellent comic and book stores that get a mention on the profile and Outer Limits is one of them; great comic shop in Waltham, MA (near Boston). If you're down there, pop in and buy something. Or else. *boxes the air*

5. the road to god knows...: Von's graphic novel. Something that's been causing us a lot of heartache lately because, if any book deserves to see print and get some attention, it's this one. Von's put his heart and soul into it and anyone who looks at it at all carefully should be able to see that. It's been a hard road and we've been kicked in the teeth a lot lately but it's not over. It's not even near over. My new favourite saying when things are tough: everything will be okay in the end; if it's not okay, it's not the end. (For more info on the book and characters, go here: http://www.vonallan.com.)

6. synaesthesia: About five years ago, I was reading the book review section of the paper and one of the segments discussed a book about synaesthesia. I laughed my head off and then told Von how silly it was...I mean everyone associates colours with letters/numbers/smells/music, yes? What? No? Oh. Turned out I was a freak. It was a surprise to nobody but me.

7. Thai food: I'm on a fairly restricted diet, food-wise, due to being both vegetarian and Celiac. It can be, quite frankly, a real pain. Anyways, because of this, I try and be VERY open-minded to foods from other cultures; especially since some Asian, Indian, and Middle Eastern menus tend to include more ingredients that I can have and less of what will make me sick. I got brave one day at work and tried Thai green curry (minus the fish sauce)...and just fell in love with it. The addiction has spread to include quite a few other dishes and, despite predictions to the contrary, I haven't yet gotten tired of it. Mmm, Thai...

And there you have it!
