BUMPED BY MOGGY BECAUSE THIS IS A BIG DEAL!

Well, it's definitely come together a bit quicker than I was expecting, but guess who has a book out? Hmmm...?!

Final Li'l Kids Front Cover

Yup, it's true! My first graphic novel, collecting the short stories you've been reading, is now available. Yay! It's titled Li'l Kids and is 88 pages in length and features three short stories plus all kinds of concept art. Plus, there's a lot on the writing side of things, too. Not only did I include the script from each story but I also did a breakdown detailing how each story was put together - right from the brainstorming stage to the final script. Hopefully you'll enjoy the peek behind the curtain!

And I've made it available a few different ways, too. First, you can download a free PDF Ebook version at my website (http://www.vonallan.com/shop.html). The link to the PDF is there and there's also a link to a torrent version of the book, too. So if you're not sure about purchasing it sight unseen or if you just prefer an ebook version, this is the way to go. If you do download it, please share it, too. It's licenced under Creative Commons, so if you like it please pass it around to friends and family. One of the hardest things about being an artist is avoiding obscurity. This is an attempt to avoid some of that so please, I would dearly love it if you pass it around.

If you want to purchase a copy, there are a few ways of doing it. The print version is up on Amazon now as well as Barnes and Noble (I'll post the links in just a sec). It will be in a few stores here in Ottawa, Ontario in the near future (including my old bookshop Perfect Books). I'm not positive about comic shops yet. That should be finalized in the next week or two, but things are still up in the air on that front.

The Amazon links are as follows (and yes, in the interest of full disclosure, I do earn a few cents if you purchase a copy following these links):

Amazon.com:                        Amazon.ca                         Amazon.co.uk:

And the link to Barnes and Noble is right here, too!

I'm still a little dazzled that I have my first book out, too. I hope you like it!

So, wait. I'm gone for a few months and you come out with a BOOK BEHIND MY BACK!?!!?

And...it's amazing?!?!!?

Geez! I thought we were friends, Von! Look at you rising the bar in secret. Damn your lack of trust in us fellow tale swappers!

*shakes fist*

I'M ONTO YOU!!

Heh! And yes, I have a book out! Woo hoo! :) I don't know if it's amazing, but I hope so!

I feel bad about the same thing, though. It's been a rough and intense year which has left me more than a little self-absorbed. Which means I've totally gotten backlogged on blog reading, including yours, damn it all. I'm hoping that this will change in the nearish future.

Well, to be fair, I didn't post anything for almost 3 months while I was up in Maine. :)

So you're off the hook, Mr. Von.

( say "Von" and not "Allen" because a- I know it's just a nom de plume and b- It sounds like "Mr. Bond" if you say it fast.)

I don't know how many of the friends here have vision challenges. I did read li'l kids online, but I have very middle-aged eyes and have to wear special glasses to work on my computer (otherwise, I get major headaches from trying so hard to focus on the screen). So, as soon as Von said the book was available at Amazon.com, I bought it. Me, I like to hold books in my hand, I like to read in bed or curled up on the sofa with a cat or two snuggled next to me. So, the book is lovely. I'm going to back to it to go through the extras. Yay for li'l kids!

Aw, thank you! I actually didn't realize your vision problems were that problematic. That doesn't sound like much fun. I can sympathize with the headaches - I get occasional (fortunately it's been very occasional over the past two years or so) migraines and they're debilitating.

I am really pleased to hear you liked the book! Now I just hope more people share that feeling. I posted a mention on the GNLIB and I've been nervous about it all day; was I too forward? Too subtle? Argh! Talking to strangers about oneself can be very difficult at times. Oy!

Oh, your so sweet! Thank you! Now I just hope you like it (bites finger nails nervously)!

Were you having problems trying to order it before, though? If so, that's weird.

Not to worry, on any score {{{{Von}}}}. I've read enough of the web comic to know I'll love the book. As for the ordering problems, I should hang a sign over my computer: Do not try ANY complex web processes in the middle of a thunderstorm. LOL Like most tech glitches in our house, it was very much my bad.
Hugs and smiles,
Jean Marie

I don't suppose you guys are going to be at FanExpo this weekend?

No, unfortunately not. I've actually never quite figured out if FanExpo should be something I go to. Part of it is that T.O. is just far enough away to make it a bit of a pain (about a 9 hour round trip from Ottawa).

I'm also not sure if FanExpo is the right type of event for my work. My gut feeling is that it's not, but I may change my mind on that front down the road.

Cool. It is a big show, but there are a lot of independant comics creators there. My friend Janet who does supernatural love stories comes down from Ottawa every year.

Do you go to the Paradise show?

Janet Hetherington Janet? Of Eternal Romance fame? I do know her. Ok, while we've actually never met, we've exchanged emails a few times. And Ronn and I were in the same art show (though I've never met him, either).

If it is her, I didn't know she made the hike. Interesting!

Exactly that Janet. She was my wife's maid of honour.
