The road to god knows... contest is in full swing and, while there have been a number of good guesses, no one has come up with the right one as of yet. To recap, the question is this: what is Marie's middle name? And the one clue I gave is that her middle name starts with the letter "J."

Since I know guesswork is always a little tricky, I'm going to list some of the more common choices here. That should narrow things down a bit. And of course, when you're ready to make a guess please email me at rtgkcontest@gmail.com with the subject line "RTGK Contest" and your guess in the body. And please just one guess per day, too!

Here's the list:

  • Jeanne
  • Joline
  • Joanne
  • Jean
  • Jane
  • Julianne
  • Justine
  • Jacqueline
  • Jesse
  • Johanna
  • Janice
  • Jasmine
  • Josephine
  • Janet
  • Jennifer
  • Julia
  • June
  • Julie
  • Juliette
  • Joy

So again, these are all incorrect guesses. Some good ones in there, but nothing that's bang on correct. So please keep the guesses coming! The prize, of course, is this framed print of my GirlAMatic 5th anniversary birthday card design (I'm holding it in the pic below).

It has turned out that way! I was really worried that the first or second guess would get it right. Go figure. :)

Lindburgh?
This reminds me of a similar contest Matt Wagner threw in an episode of Mage. "Somewhere in this episode is a clue to Kevin's middle name, figure it out and you get a sketch!"

The only clue in the whole darn book was the letter L.

AND SOMEONE GOT IT!

Re: Lindburgh?
Heh. This contest is based entirely on what Wagner came up with. It's in issue 6 of Mage: The Hero Discovered and I wanted to do a riff on that. The difference was that he put the deliberate clue in (I think it was in a panel that had a close-up on Kevin Matchstick's driver's licence) where I just gave out a clue.

So yes, credit where credit is due. I just love the idea of this type of contest. I think because it's so democratic. :)

Mage: The Hero Discovered is one of my fave fave fave comics of all time. I've actually got all the first run Comico comics, and one of my characters in AWFW uses Green Magic as a little tribute to Mage. Nice to see another shoutout to it. :)

Re: Lindburgh?
Me, too! One of my first Christmas gifts from Moggy was the complete run of that same Comico series. I only had bits and pieces before. Wonderful stuff.

Wagner is actually an inspiration for me, too. The first 5 issues or so of Discovered were on the weak side. His art wasn't that strong. But he got better (helped ably by Sam Keith's inking). When people kick me when it comes to my own art, I think of guys like Wagner. And I keep striving despite the snark.
